The capacity of travel to educate, break down barriers and create memories. Nothing is more power than exploring new places and meeting new people. Aviation is the spark that enables this.

Aviation right now is experiencing unprecedented change and has significant challenges. I love being exposed to that and, with my work, hopefully making a meaningful contribution.

Working in aviation allows you to connect people with what’s important in their lives from all facets of the business. Since starting out as a below wing staff member in undergrad, I’ve had the opportunity to meet so many great people, travel the world, and learn new skills in this challenging yet rewarding industry.

Cirium has provided me with tremendous amounts of growth opportunities over the nearly 8 years of being here. I have been given many professional development courses as well as mentorship opportunities to advance my skillsets as a direct line manager. Cirium has a wealth of knowledge amongst all levels of leadership and everyone is encouraging, helpful, and motivated to see others progress along their career journeys.

Why do you love working in aviation?

Aviation is dynamic, ever changing, and nuanced. No day is ever the same which makes working with aviation data so enjoyable.

Additionally, something most cannot say… I am able to apply my degree in International Affairs on an every day basis. From monitoring geopolitical disruptions, to economics, environmental sustainability and a global pandemic, I have seen direct correlations between my studies and aviation trends which makes working in aviation so rewarding.

Cirium is absolutely a great place to grow your career as you get the chance to work with a lot of inspiring and talented people, and consequently always find yourself embracing the state-of-the-art technologies, processes and ideas.

Why do you love working in aviation?

In one way or another, aviation is an industry that everyone would have made use of and interacted with; this alone gives me the pride in supporting the development and flourishment of this significant industry.

Cirium’s diverse and intelligent data and support teams allows everyone to set priorities and allow for an overall understanding on what products and solutions we offer and are developing for the aviation and aerospace industries.

Why do you love working in aviation?

Whenever I answer the age-old question of “What do you do?”, I’m never surprised of the reply after my completed response: “Wow.”. Being involved in this industry, at the level of data & analytics, allows me to see and understand all aspects and the various sector’s many many developments: from aerospace & finance to traveler metrics and to the passenger experience.

Cirium has a broad portfolio within the aviation space, this provides a lot of opportunity to challenge yourself for career growth.  This can range from creating new solutions for a specific area, or collaborating with multiple teams to solve complex market problems. 

Why do you love working in aviation?

For me, the aviation industry is really a passion. Growing up fascinated with aviation, it was my focus at school and I worked for airlines and airports. Now I’m able to use this experience to provide solutions in a highly complicated industry.

Within Cirium, data scientists can pursue opportunities to work on cross-functional teams, launch innovative products, and develop advanced analytics. Aviation is a key driver of international growth and the worldwide economy. As a data scientist working in aviation, being able to work with leading datasets and look for opportunities to deliver analytics, insights and new products is meaningful and rewarding.

The chance to provide a client with insight they can’t get on themselves without us is so cool. Seeing the impact you have on them reminds you why you work hard for incremental gains and why the data we produce is so valued.

Why do you think Cirium is a great place to grow your career?

Cirium truly is an amazing place to work! I’ve had the opportunity to completely change my career path and grow personally and professionally. At Cirium I have had many opportunities to step up and take on new challenges, sharpen my skills, and learn new skills. I love working for Cirium for so many reasons! To name just a few, first, Cirium is an international company and I get to work with the most talented amazing people from all walks of life from all over the world. Second, Cirium puts their people first by investing in them. I have had many continuing education opportunities and know I have so many more ahead of me. And finally, work-life-balance isn’t just something Cirium says, they actually live and breath it. Over the last two years Cirium has really stepped up and shown me that family and my health comes first.

Why do you love working in aviation?

I love working in aviation because it’s so extremely interesting and there is never a dull moment. Aviation pretty much touches everyone is one way or another. And I get to dig into the data that fuels the aviation and travel industry daily. I get to see how so many companies (from aircraft manufactures to insurance companies to airlines to travel management companies) use our data to make informed operational decisions or provide important flight operational data to their travelers for example. The possibilities and opportunities are endless with what Cirium can do with the data we have and we have just barley scratched the surface.

Why do you think Cirium is a great place to grow your career?

The team and the people. The support, mentoring, flexibility, ethos, culture, diversity, freedom and team spirit (to mention a just few of the key reasons) make this a place where anything is possible. If you have the desire and focus to develop the opportunity and support to achieve your goals is here. This is only possible due to the people and the business culture to develop individuals. There are a multitude of training courses as well as all the on the job training, external courses and qualifications available. The ideal of developing everyone who joins this business to the point they are sought by the market and then making this the place they want to stay, sums up the philosophy. Cirium covers almost every potion of the aviation industry and there are multiple disciplines across the organisation and thus so many different ways to develop with multiple career paths options. Direct exposure to the market provides team members the opportunity to build their own brand recognised across the industry, with access to leading figures offers huge growth possibilities. While we want to keep our team members as long as possible, we always celebrate if they move on to a new part of the industry and we regularly refer to them as Alumni. It is great to have ex-team members in all facets of the industry (and beyond) from aircraft manufactures to lessors and highlights the career growth opportunities from working at Cirium.

Why do you love working in aviation?

Planes! Since I can remember I had an affinity for aircraft. From RAF stories from my grandfather to watching Concorde take off at night, I have always liked the metal. After time in the Air Cadets, my career started at a flying club in operations, including some flying, furthering my enthusiasm for the industry, and led to a degree in air transport management. That gave an even wider understanding of the sector but I didn’t know what I wanted to do after leaving University apart from working in aviation. So when I saw the advert for a role at Ascend (later becoming part of Cirium) tracking the global aircraft fleet in a database it seemed perfect (not to mention being based at Heathrow)!

Later moving into the Consultancy team and starting aircraft appraisals showed me a whole new career path and part of the industry I had no idea even existed. That really has showed me some other great parts of this industry: being able to go and physically inspect the aircraft is a highlight, getting to build long lasting relationships with senior people, in a relatively close community, is great, knowing that you play a hand in the growth of the global fleet, coving multiple asset classes and having leading industry figures rely on your opinion is an honour. Plus you get to travel and of course flying itself is a key reason why the industry is awesome! As far back as secondary school (at the height of my plane spotting) I imagined a job with an office by the runway at Heathrow watching the departures and arrivals, while having an influence on the industry – quarter of a decade later it takes a second to remember that is the reality I’m privileged to enjoy!

Cirium always provides me with the opportunity to further develop my skills, whether they are leadership, people management or technical, and also provides constant opportunity for growth. Since I joined 4 years ago I was promoted first to Key Account Manager and then to Sales Manager growing and developing a brand new team.
Cirium also helps you encourages nurturing relationships across all departments and regions, enabling every individual to feel truly part of a growing company with a fantastic culture. Furthermore being part of RELX enables you to take advantage of valuable professional networking and be part of wider stimulating corporate events and initiatives.

Why do you love working in aviation?

My first job several years ago was in aviation, and despite transitioning in different industries I’ve always wanted to get back to my first passion which is aviation. It makes the world connect, it symbolises opportunity, it’s made of incredibly passionate professionals, it’s extremely dynamic, truly global and rich of opportunities.

There is an opportunity to make a difference knowing we play a crucial role in ensuring efficiency and convenience of travel for millions of people every day. The industry is always evolving and there is sense of excitement and change in the air (pun intended).

Cirium has given me an environment where I can experience something new, learn at a fast pace and experience opportunities to develop my career. As a professional from the banking sector, I was pleasantly surprised with the autonomy Cirium allows, promoting a sense of accountability and growth. Not only does Cirium provide opportunities, but it also has a great working culture, collaboration, and support from peers as well as support from leaders across the regions. Cirium also gives access to leadership across the organization which shows an employee’s view matters in the firms’ strategic direction.

Why do you love working in aviation?

Cirium is the first aviation job in my career. I love traveling but I never thought I would work in any other industries other than Finance. However, in the aviation industry, I get to experience my passion for traveling, connecting with people globally and leveraging my financial knowledge.

The more I learn about the aviation industry, the more my passion grows as the industry keeps evolving in business, technology, digital acumen and connecting people together.

And with Cirium, I get to experience all the points mentioned above.

Why do you think Cirium is a great place to grow your career?

The culture at Cirium is highly collaborative, supportive and friendly. I always recall a piece of advice from a senior leader at Cirium – “It’s really simple. Treat people the way you would wish to be treated yourself.” Cirium enables opportunities, with a strong focus on career development and allows people to define and pursue their path. To me, Cirium is the right organization at the right time as the aviation industry doubles down on its digital transformation programmes, presenting plenty of opportunities to learn, grow and make a difference.

Why do you love working in aviation?

The “why” is sometimes hard to articulate when you are so passionate about something. There are few industries as dynamic as aviation – where no two days are the same. I enjoy working in aviation as it makes it possible for people to come together, see more of the world and experience the thrill of being airborne. I particularly enjoy the buzz of an airport, full of activity with people heading to various destinations – it’s magic!

在加入Cirium之前，我已经在航空公司工作很多年了。然而，在2020年加入Cirium后，我意识到航空相关的知识就像天空一样宽阔，而我之前学习到的知识是有限的。经过不断的努力工作和学习，我丰富了航空知识，特别是航空数据解决方案相关的。包括但不限于行业分析及解决方案，资产管理和运营管理等….我感觉自己比以前更专业了， 更觉得现在的自己才是一个真正的航空业从业者。但是学习永无止境。这就是为什么我喜欢在航空行业，并将继续在这个行业工作。

Why do you love working in aviation?

I had many years of airline working experience before I joined Cirium. However, after joining Cirium in 2020, I realized that aviation knowledge is as wide as the sky, and what I had learned before was limited. After several years of hard work and study, my aviation knowledge, especially aviation data solutions-related is more abundant. It Includes but not limited to Industry analysis solutions, assets Management and operation Management etc…. I feel more professional and more like a real aviation practitioner than before. But learning never ends. That’s why I love working in aviation and will continue to work in the industry.
